Roman philosopher Seneca wrote, "whenever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness."  This seemed to be a philosophy adopted by Dave as his interactions with those around him exemplified this notion.  Not only did he deeply love those close to him, but he also showed appreciation for people who existed in the various circles of those he loved. He understood that we can’t just cherish those we love, but we have to extend our benevolence beyond our inner circle.  For those of us who witnessed his interactions with family, friends, and community members, it was a constant illustration of the sincere generosity of human kindness.  His smile, his skill to be a good listener when engaged in conversation, and his dedication to his family should remind us all that we should be focused on the humans around us whether offering a simple hello or assisting them to navigate life’s obstacles.  Dave's legacy will be the lessons he taught us about how to treat each other, how to love family wholeheartedly, and how to make those around us feel genuinely valued.
