Robert Moore Obituary

Robert L. Moore, 87, 309 River Road East, died Friday morning, December 8 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, where he had been admitted on Tuesday December 5, 2017.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of the Memorial Mass on Tuesday morning at 11:00 at St. John The Evangelist Church, 506 Gouverneur Street, Morristown with Rev. Fr. Chris Carrara, Pastor, officiating.

Bob is survived by his wife Sally, three sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas and his wife, Laura, Milwaukee, WI, John R., Morristown, and William, Ogdensburg; five grandchildren, Megan, Sean, Timothy, all of Milwaukee, WI, Nicholas and Chloe, Pillar Point, NY.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Moore is predeceased by his mother and father and three brothers, Erno, Richard and Calvin.

Bob was born in Ogdensburg on April 13, 1930 a son of Seeber and Josephene Erno Moore and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Ogdensburg in 1947.

At the age of 7 until he was 12, he worked as a paperboy in Ogdensburg, then when he was 14 until 16 years old he worked in the hospital kitchen during WWII and managed a pool room after school and weekends when he was 15 until he was 17.

After graduating from High School, Bob went to work at the Diamond Match Company starting as a Laborer and progressing to Office Manager, where he met his wife Sally.

Mr. Moore served in the US Army as a Special Agent, Counter Intelligence Corps, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division in Korea from 1952 until he was honorably discharged on February 24, 1954.

Bob graduated from St. Lawrence University and the Albany Law School on the same day where he was Phi Beta Kappa at SLU and graduated from Union College in Schenectady.

Mr. Moore then went to work at The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, from 1959 until 1985. He worked as a Special Agent first in Chicago in Criminal Matters, then Detroit for five years in Organized Crime then in San Juan and St. Thomas VI as a Resident Agent, before moving to FBI Headquarters until 1976. He worked from 1976-77 in the Liaison Section at the White House.

Bob was a Legal Attache’ from 1977 at the US Embassy in Ottawa and then in London until 1985.

After he retired in 1985 Mr. Moore continued to do background checks for the US Department of State, the FBI, the US Department of Defense and the US Customs service until the fall of 2017.

Bob enjoyed reading about history, especially the Civil War, being with his family and working.
