Vernon Gilmour Obituary

The Funeral for Vernon George Gilmour, 78, 4399 County Route 6, will be held Monday at the Presbyterian Stone Church at 10:30 with Rev. Robert Schirmer, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday, November 4, from 4-6 at IslandView Funeral Services, 300 Main Street, Morristown.

Mr. Gilmour died Thursday November 1  at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center where he had been a patient since Sunday October 28.

Surviving are his wife Carol, three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda J. (Steven) Wright, Ogdensburg, Karen A. (Bob) Richards, Rouses Point, Hattie Beth (Marty) Bice, Ogdensburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin V. (Melissa) Chittenango; grandchildren; Spencer (Shauna) Kirby, Ogdensburg, Tyler Richards, Washington, DC, Samantha Bice, Madrid, Brandon Wright, Ogdensburg, Megan Richards, Charlottesville, Va. Carolyn Wright, Ogdensburg; three special great-grandsons Kylar, Kaysn, Kohyn Vernon Kirby, Ogdensburg; one sister Sally Miller, Ogdensburg, ; Aunt Sarah Gilmour, Ogdensburg; Brother-in-law and wife, Ron and Karen Bettinger; special cousins, Russell and Terri, Lee Gilmour and Ann Enoch and special childhood friend, Jim Evans.

Predeceasing Vernon is one sister Judy Mourick who died in September 2010.

Born on August 22, 1940 in Ogdensburg he was the son of Kenneth John and Deltha Violet Carr Gilmour.

After graduating from Morristown High School in 1962, Vernon married Carol Ann Bettinger at the Presbyterian Stone Church on January 26, 1963 with Rev. Edwin Sizeland, officiating.

Mr. Gilmour was a dairy farmer all of his working life, until illness forced him to retire in the mid-1990’s

An avid hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed hunting deer and ducks and was a member of the NRA.

In addition to enjoyment of watching birds, Vernon spent a great deal of quality time with his great grandson Kyler riding around the farm and neighborhood in his golf cart and watching his favorite football team the Cleveland Browns.
