Warren Wisner Obituary

Calling hours for Warren G. Wisner, 87, 1106 North Umberland Street, will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00-Noon at IslandView Funeral Services, 300 Main Street. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Carthage in the spring at the convenience of the family.

A reception will follow the calling hours at the Morristown Fire Station under the Direction of the Auxiliary of the Morristown Fire Department.

Mr. Wisner died early Sunday morning, January 7 at his home under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and his family.

Warren is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, Gene, Spencerport; one daughter-in-law: Priscilla Paciocco, Richmond, VA ;two grandchildren: Meagan Wisner, Richmond, VA, Aaron Wisner, San Diego, CA; one great grandson Charlie, Richmond, VA; one brother and sister-in-law: Theodore “Ted” Wisner and his wife Ellen, Canton and nieces and nephews and his loyal companion, Oscar, at home.

Predeceasing Mr. Wisner is a daughter Kimberly who died on December 3, 1971.

Born on December 19, 1930 in Watertown, NY, he was a son of Theodore Eugene and Mildred Smith Wisner.

Mr. Wisner graduated from West Carthage High School in 1949 and then attended Ithaca College. He graduated from SUNY Oswego in the late 1950’s and earned his Master’s in Counseling from St. Lawrence University in 1964.

Warren served in the US Army from January 16, 1951 until he was honorably discharged on December 15, 1953 after being stationed in Germany, where he played in the US Army band.

On January 29, 1955, he married Shirley Alberta Winters in the Methodist Church in Carthage.  

Mr. Wisner served as Guidance Director at Canton Central School for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

In 1989, after Mrs. Wisner retired, the couple moved to Morristown to be on and near the St. Lawrence River. They first built a place in Taylor Bay near Point Comfort and later built a home on North Umberland Street.

While Warren was interested in woodworking, skiing and boating, music was his favorite hobby and interest in which he was very dedicated. He played for local bands including The Star Dusters, The North Country Preservation Band, The Frank Sacci Band, St. John’s Band, The Jack Kelly Band and finally, The Little River Trio, a group of three women, Susan Urban, Betsy Kapes and Beth Robinson.
