Lanny D. Simmons, 67, 215 English Settlement Road past away at his home Saturday January 16 surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 27, 2021 from 1:00-3:00 at the Brier Hill Fire Station Community Room

Lanny is survived by his wife Joyce, one son Jason, Brier Hill, one daughter, Salean, Morristown, three grandchildren, Kaylani Simmons, Levi and Daxtyn Jones, one sister Sheila Mae, Morristown, one brother Ronald, Georgia, and nieces and nephews.

Predeceasing Mr. Simmons are two brothers Jeffrey and Robert and one sister Kelly.

Born on March 12, 1953 in then Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg, he was the son of Robert Carlton and Constance Ann (Lozo) Simmons.

On January 5, 2021, Lanny married his long-time companion, Joyce Mary Gladle at their home with his nephew Robert Simmons officiating.  

After graduating from Morristown Central School in 1972, he joined the Teamsters Union 687 where he worked construction and drove truck for a number of years.

Mr. Simmons drove for Anchor Motor Freight, then drove several times across the country to California working at ACCO and later drove truck for All States Asphalt.

Lanny was a member of the Black Lake Fish and Game Club, the NRA, Spruce Mountain Club, Shingle Pond Club and a 53 year member of the Brier Hill Fire Department.

Mr. Simmons served on the Morristown Zoning Board of Appeals, Fire Commissioner for the Brier Hill Fire Department and later after moving from Brier Hill to his new home served as a Fire Commissioner on the Morristown Fire Department.

So sorry to read of Lanny's passing. My first thought was "there goes another icon of Brier Hill/Morristown." He was one of those people that you knew would be there if help were needed, who was a loyal friend to many, and who was never afraid to express his opinion to those who displeased him by their words or actions. My sympathy and prayers go to all his friends and relatives. Lois & Ken
